Richmond’s First World War

We are excited to announce the launch of a new website and publication commemorating Richmond’s First World War.

As part of the centenary programme that took place across the country, we worked with local people and organisations to remember the role Richmond played in the First World War.

The culmination of the project has been the commissioning of emerging illustrator Chris King, who has produced 13 original drawings which each illustrate a story unique to the borough. From the Poppy Factory to the Footballer of Loos, the women gardeners of Kew to the Star and Garter hospital, each illustration represents an important moment in Richmond’s First World War history.

The illustrations can be viewed via the project’s website and also in a beautiful printed publication, to be housed at Richmond Local Studies Library and Orleans House Gallery from April 2019.
