New Extraordinary Women Tour

On 29th August 1729, the bejewelled Queen Caroline swept into the shimmering Octagon Room and dined with her female friends in an intimate but elaborate banquet. Not only could Caroline command a room, but a nation. She became regent whilst her husband the King was away in Hanover, she influenced policy enormously and campaigned for freedom of the press and freedom of speech in government. Caroline is one of many extraordinary women who make up the history of Orleans House Gallery. To celebrate Heritage Open Days, England’s largest festival of history and culture, we have created a new tour which will share the stories of some of the amazing women who visited, lived in and saved Orleans House. The tours on 15 & 16 September are free but booking is recommended to avoid disappointment. Book here.
