Play:Make:Art
Have fun exploring natural environments with artist Abigail Hunt. Play:Make:Art is our Friday morning (fortnightly) creative drop-in session for 2–5-year-olds. This year, it is inspired by the Cultural Reforesting programme, and we are asking the question – how can we renew our relationship with nature?
Each workshop is an opportunity to engage with the natural world and learn how it is also a participant. Some sessions take children and their accompanying adults on an exploratory artistic walk in the woods. Others transform our workshop space into an installation that communicates with nature.
In this artistic and exploratory environment, families can play without a prescribed expectation. Abigail carefully curates materials that enable children to respond in their own way. The result is an open-ended shared creative experience.
The workshops support communication between adults and children, helping with early skills development, co-ordination and social interaction. They are also a learning tool to help understand how to love and respect nature.
Cultural Reforesting is a series of artist-led, multi-disciplinary projects set in the context of the ecological crises of our time. We at Orleans House Gallery are supporting artists wishing to explore local solutions to this crisis, and feel that the gallery, with its vibrant grounds and creative setting can be a place where all can come to collaborate, find a community and make a difference, no matter how personal or small.
